It's never too early to impress a top-flight prospect.

In the case of linebacker Chris Martin, Notre Dame couldn't have made its pitch to the junior from Oakland, Calif., any sooner. The 6-foot-4, 224-pound athlete watched the opening Irish workout of fall camp on Friday afternoon, kicking off a weeklong Midwest vacation. Martin spent nearly eight hours getting an inside look at Notre Dame, a program he's supported while growing up on the West Coast.
