The equator never looked so good to the Telepathic Tabernacle as it did this week. After spending much of the latter part of September and early part of October in the dumpster - especially against the spread - the TeleTab has come out of the tunnel with a two-week explosion that has seen the Tab put up a double skunk total of 9-0 in the SU Division and a respectable mark of 7-2 in the ATS Division. Those latter numerals mean the Tab is now back to the equator - 50% - on the year and it has never been a lovelier sight than to see the equator once again. Meanwhile, the SU Division improved to 74% on the year with yet another skunk in the bin. That brings it within six percentage points of the 80% gold standard and that is not too shabby after being nearly at the bottom of the dumpster three weeks ago. Oregon gave the Tab a nice easy start with their demolition of Washington in Seattle last week. That took down a game in the ATS Division but that game came back when Wazzu covered the spread against the Fighting Tedfords in the next game of the day. Arizona toyed with the Tab once again - but then finally put UCLA away for a win in both divisions. Then USC presided over what seems like a trend for them this year - building up fourth quarter leads that make it look like they are going to cover the spread and then nearly choking it all away. The girls of Troy won the game but again, did not cover the spread, and cost the Tab a game in the ATS Division. Fortunately, Stanford came through again, as expected, at home and the Trees not only finished off the skunk in the SU Division, but also gave the ATS its equator-izing mark and, perhaps best of all, secured the Gem of the Week - bringing it up to a slightly less abominable 3-5 on the season.

Week Nine features the fearsome foursome again. Nearly every time there have been only four games in a week, the week has almost always been a difficult week for the Tab and this week is no different as none of the four games stand out as clearly as, say, the Trees did last week. The obvious game not to be touched by the proverbial 39.5-foot pole is the USC-Oregon tilt. The Nikes look solid but USC looks squirrelly - the girls can be girls and lose to the Nikes when they come out in their scary all-black uniforms on Halloween [as rumored] or they can play tough as they have in virtually every other so-called big game they have ever been in since Pete Carroll has been in charge. Too close to call, so the Tab flings it off the cliff into the briny water below. That leaves a thoroughly unappealing fruitcake-resembling game of California and ASU and the Tab will not even smell that one, much less consider it for Gem status. The Tab likes Oregon State at home against UCLA but OSU has not always been dependable as the home favorite and with that in mind, the Tab will take Wazzu this week. The Cougars have made a nice little habit of covering the big numbers so far this season. The Tab likes that kind of consistency and selects Wazzu to win and cover as the official Gem of the Week. The rest of this week's real reefers of madness?.
