The Washington State University Cougar women's hoop team was looking to rebound from their opening season loss to Saint Mary's on Friday but the University of California at Davis had other ideas as the Aggies buried the Cougars, 77-38 at Davis, California. With the loss, the Cougars remain winless on the year at 0-2 overall.
The game began poorly for the Cougars, who were ice-cold from the field as the Cougars missed their first six shots of the game and watched helplessly as UC-Davis took a 9-0 lead before redshirt senior forward Katie Madison hit a layup for the first Wazzu points nearly three and a half minutes into the game. The Cougars did not score again until nearly six minutes later when Madison hit a jumper, but by that time, the Aggies had built up a 19-4 lead and the Cougars would never recover as UC-Davis took a 37-14 lead into the locker room.
Turnovers and missed shots were the themes of the second half for the Cougars as the Aggies embarked on another scoring binge to keep their distance from the Cougars and cruised in for an easy victory.
Wazzu was led in scoring by Madison with 12 points - the only Wazzu player scoring in double digits - and junior guard Jazmine Perkins led in rebounding with nine boards.
- The Cougars shot a poor 26% [14-for-55] as a team in the game and missed all 19 of their three-point shot attempts.
- The Cougars committed 28 turnovers for the game and the Aggies scored 32 points off those turnovers.
