The Washington State University Cougar volleyball team continued the second half of Pac-10 conference play with another loss - this time to the Arizona State Sun Devils, 3-1 in Tempe. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 6-20 overall and remain winless at 0-16 in conference play.
The Cougars were competitive in the first set and took an early two point lead at 7-5 before relinquishing the lead when Arizona State went on a 6-0 run. The Cougars were unable to re-take the lead, however, and fell, 25-20.
Wazzu opened a big lead in the second set at 16-8 and although the Cougars nearly squandered all eight points of that lead - allowing the Sun Devils to close within two points on two occasions - ultimately, they were able to stave off ASU for a 25-19 victory.
Wazzu appeared to be on their way to another win in the third set, holding an 11-8 advantage, but the Sun Devils launched a 7-1 run and never looked back in claiming a 25-21 win.
The fourth and final set was anti-climactic as Arizona State won comfortably, by a 25-19 margin.
Junior Megan Ganzer led Wazzu with a career-high 29 kills while sophomore Rachel Todorovich added 12.
- Sophomore Oceana Bush led Wazzu with 16 digs
- True freshman Sara Biondi led Wazzu with 47 assists.
Wazzu continues their 2010 season with a match against Oregon at 7pm on Friday, November 26 at Bohler Gym in Pullman.
