June 17, 2013According to a report from NJ.com, Washington State University and Rutgers University are close to finalizing a home and home for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Tom Luicci of The Star-Ledger, citing a source that requested anonymity, notes that the first game is expected to be played in Seattle next season.
"The arrangement calls for Rutgers to play Washington State in Seattle - not the Cougars' home stadium in Pullman, Wash. - next season, likely as the home opener," Luicci reports.
An official announcement of the agreement between the two schools is likely to be released sometime this week. The Cougars would make a return trip to Piscataway, N.J., in 2015 to complete the home and home agreement.
Washington State was originally set to play Wisconsin in 2014 in Pullman as part of a home and home agreement but the Badgers have since canceled the arrangement as talks of a home and home with LSU have become a formality at this point. This left a void in the Cougars' future schedule which appears to have been filled with today's report.
Rutgers, who is currently a member of the Big East, will be entering their first season in the Big 10 after the 2013-2014 academic year. The two schools have never met. The Scarlet Knights went 9-4 last season under first year head coach Kyle Flood, which ended in a 13-10 overtime loss to Virginia Tech in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Washington State is also set to play at Nevada in 2014 as part of a home and home agreement that is set to be completed in Pullman during the 2017 season.
