November 8, 2007

It was a tricky week in the Telepathic Tabernacle last week. All the Halloween candy was gone or fading fast and now that the sugar high was wearing off, the Pac-10 race was hazily coming back into view. Oh yeah, there they were ? the two remaining contenders for the conference crown, Arizona State and Oregon ? which the TeleTab promptly christened as the Gem of the Week and that worked out nicely. Oregon waxed the Sun Devils' bikinis and gave the Tab our second consecutive victory in that area, which was desperately needed and now puts the Tab at 6-4 on the year in Gems. The other games went pretty much as planned too except for that silly Washington game and it just seems like no Washington game these days goes as planned. Nevertheless, the numbers looked swell in the SU [Straight Up] Division with a 4-1 mark that drove up the Tab's season numerals to 42-18 ? good for 70%. The numerals in the ATS [Against The Spread] Division remained stable with a 3-2 week to keep the overall percentage at 58% - a tad under the 60% bar the Tab likes to set for the year ? but at least it was over .500 for the week and that's better than the Tab could say for some of the other weeks this season.

Week 11 does not have the marquee game that Week 10 did so there is going to have to be a little more ingenuity involved in perusing the candidates. First and foremost, the Wazzu-Stanford game is right out ? that has far too many invariables lurking around dark corners. If Oregon State were completely healthy, the Tab would like to select the Rodentry in their game against the Hussies, but they are not and so the Tab is not. That leaves ASU and UCLA and USC and Cal ? both road games for the favorites and with that being the case, the Tab is going to go with the lower number to clear ? USC. It is that scary "no-loss November" thing for Pete Carroll and his boys of Troy [everybody be sure to play your personal scary soundtrack music when you say "no-loss November" just so it has greater impact] but what is scarier is the Fightin' Tedfords' play of late. USC has not exactly been a barn-burner this year but everyone can see they have the matches, it's just a matter of when are they going to spontaneously combust? Plus, Carroll and the boys love being the hated team coming into the opposing stadium and have fared well in that role ? especially in the Pac-10, where only Oregon has been able to beat them on the road with any semblance of consistency. So, the Tab will make USC the official Gem of the Week. The rest of this week's raunchy roaches of ridicule?.
