November 14, 2008Cedar Hill got a 22-yard field goal in third overtime from junior Eduardo Camara to cap a wild, 52-49, triple overtime win over Plano West in the first round of the Class 5A Division II first round.
Cedar Hill (10-1) fell behind 28-0 at the half but rallied to score five straight touchdowns in the second half with running back Ben Malena catching fire.
Cedar Hill has won its last eight since a non-district loss to Euless Trinity. The Longhorns have scored 38 or more points in their last six games.
Cedar Hill advances to play the Southlake Carroll-Colleyville Heritage winner. Southlake Carroll defeated Cedar Hill in the playoffs last year.
West started quickly with a healthy senior running back D.J. Cohen, struggling all season with a thigh injury got the Wolves their first playoff win in the last three years.
Cohen scored West's first four touchdowns to take a 28-0 lead. Cohen had 271 yards on 16 carries after accounting for 89 yards and a TD to start the third quarter.
West (6-5) is making its third-consecutive playoff apperance but was ousted in the first round the last two years.
West advanced to the second round of the playoffs in 2004 before losing to Denton Ryan.
