Former Wazzu and Beijing Olympian heptathlete Diana Pickler was in second place after Day One in the heptathlon but when first-day leader Hyleas Fountain went down with an injury, Pickler took over and won the competition with 6290 points at the USA Track & Field Championships in Eugene. Pickler will compete in the world championships in Berlin in August.
Pickler amassed her points on Day Two by finishing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.33 meters [20-9.25], then followed it up with a 41.90-meter [137-6] heave in the javelin, which was good for second place and finished off the competition with a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters at 2:16.99.
Wazzu sophomore hurdling sensation, Jeshua Anderson, meanwhile, will not be joining Pickler in Berlin as he fell to fifth in the men's 400-meter final with a time of 48.77.
