Top kicking talent talks recruiting

Evangel Christian's William Russ is considered the nation's most versatile kicker.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Preseason All-American from Shreveport, La., excels all three phases of the kicking game handling field goals, punts and kickoffs for the Eagles.

Russ made has made 17 field goals over the last two seasons and averaged 42 yards per punt during that span. He also had over 60 kickoff touchbacks as a junior.

"My season is going pretty good," Russ said. "We are going into the semifinals this Friday so we will see how that goes. We're just playing and hopefully we will go to state. Overall, I am having a pretty good season. Last week I had two punts for an average of 49.6 yards and a 36-yard field goal."

Russ has made 10 field goals this season.

"This is my second season kicking off the ground," Russ said. "My longest this year has been from 45-yards but I hit one from 50-yards last year and that was off the ground too."

The Eagles are one win away from reaching the Class 2A state title game and are 12-1 on the season. They will square off against Capital in the semifinals on Friday.
