CBI appearance boosts Cougs

ANNOUNCEMENT:Cougars to host CBE Classic in November

Washington State found its offense, and found a post-season victory for the second consecutive season on Tuesday.

The Cougars traveled to San Francisco to open play in the 2012 CBI tournament against the San Francisco Dons, scored their second-most points of the season, and advanced to the second round with an 89-75 victory at War Memorial Gym.

A year ago, the Klay Thompson-led Cougars won three games in the NIT before losing in the semfinals of that tournament to Wichita State at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Against San Francisco on Tuesday, frst-team all-Pac 12 selection Brock Motum continued to dominate the scoring for WSU with 24 points. It is the 30th time in 32 games this season that Motum has scored in double figures.

Another post-season run is allowing several Cougars to move up career lists at Washington State.

Senior Marcus Capers played in his 130th game, extending his career games-played record that he set on the regular season's final weekend. The previous record of 128 games had stood since 1945, when George Hamilton set the mark.

Reggie Moore moved up to No. 12 on the Cougars career free throws list. Moore made 12 more from the line against the Dons and now has 326 in his time in Pullman. Moore passed both Kyle Weaver and Thompson on Tuesday, and is just eight away from Roy Bohler in 11th (334).

The 89 points scored by Washington State was only four shy of its season-high 93, accomplished back on Dec. 11, 2011, against Santa Clara.

The Cougars next will face the winner of Wednesday's North Dakota State at Wyoming game on Monday.
