WSU advances to CBI finals against Pittsburgh
Abe Lodwick continued his late-season, offensive explosion and the Washington State Cougars advanced to the final series in the College Basketball Invitational tournament with a 72-55 victory at Oregon State on Wednesday.
Lodwick scored a career-high 23 points, the second consecutive game in which he accomplished that feat, made eight of 12 shots (including five of eight 3-pointers) and added a career-high 12 rebounds. It was Lodwick's first career double-double.
The road victory, in which first-team all-Pac 12 selection Brock Motum scored only four points before leaving with a right ankle injury, pushed the Cougars into the finals of the CBI. WSU will host Pittsburgh in the first game of a best-of-three series on Monday at 7 p.m.
WSU has not played the Panthers since the Legends Classic in Newark, N.J., during the 2008-09 season. Wednesday was the fourth time the Cougars have played OSU this season.
The Cougars outrebounded Oregon State, 41-34, and held the Beavers to their lowest scoring output in three games of the CBI.
