Multiple reports saying Marquess Wilson has left the WSU football team
The Washington State Sports Information Department confirmed this morning "Wilson has been suspended for a violation of team rules."
The junior wide receiver from Tulare, Calif., has consistently been ridiculed for his work ethic and butted heads with head coach Mike Leach on multiple occasions. Wilson lost his starting job two games ago against Stanford due to Dominique Williams' effort in practice and his ability to "outplay" the Cougars' leading receiver.
According to the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, the Cougars held a practice last night, but it ended up being a conditioning practice and within 20 minutes, Wilson quit the session.
It remains to be seen whether this becomes a permanent situation, though it's hard imagining Leach disclosing any details surrounding Wilson's absence. Leach holds his weekly press conference at 1 p.m. and there will be follow-up developments as they become available.
Wilson, the Cougars' leading receiver this season, has 813 yards on 52 receptions and is only eight receptions away from becoming the Cougars' all-time leading receptions leader. Earlier this year, he passed Brandon Gibson for first place on the all-time receiving yards list.
