Tramaine Isabell signs NLI

PULLMAN, Wash. | Tramaine Isabell (6-1, 170, G, Seattle, Wash./Garfield HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Washington State University men's basketball team next season, head coach Ken Bone announced Friday.

"We're very excited about the addition of Tramaine to our program here at Washington State," Bone said. "He's a gifted and versatile player with the ball in his hands, and yet he's also very capable of scoring at the guard spot."

Previously expected to attend prep school following this season, Isabell will enroll in time to be eligible to play next season. Junior college transfer Danny Lawhorn's departure had some influence on Isabell joining prior to 2015, though the Seattle product had an impressive offseason that gave the staff the assurance that he can be ready for Pac-12 play as a freshman next year.

Isabell spent his freshman through junior years at Lakeside High School and currently attends Garfield High School where he'll play under head coach Ed Haskins. A three-year letterwinner at LHS under head coach Tavio Hobson, Isabell didn't see much playing time as a freshman after ankle surgery. As a sophomore he averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals for the Lions as they fell short of playoff action. He was named third team all-district at the conclusion of the season.

During his junior year Isabell averaged 19.9 points, 5.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game as LHS fell in overtime in the State Championship game to Rainier Beach, 62-59. The Lions' 24-5 record marked their best in school history. At the conclusion of the season Isabell picked up first team all-Metro 3A League and first team all-district honors. Both the Seattle Times and Associated Press named him second team all-State, while he was named to the all-State Tournament First Team.

The Cougars are expected to have three open scholarships for the 2014-2015 season with Isabell taking one of them. The early signing period runs through next Wednesday, so the staff could certainly add other players before then, but the expectation is for the Cougars to look for front court help throughout the junior college and prep seasons.

The 2013-14 Cougars host Lamar, Saturday, Nov. 16 at 9:30 p.m.at Beasley Coliseum, before opening up road action at Gonzaga, Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
