Apple Cup Draw

The Apple Cup of any sport is usually a highly emotional and hard-fought affair and it was no different in soccer as the 22nd-ranked Washington State University Cougars battled for 110 minutes of soccer with the rival Washington Huskies and two teams emerged with the classic nil-nil match. The tie keeps both teams' NCAA hopes alive as it moves Wazzu to 8-5-5 overall and 2-3-2 in conference play.

Both teams peppered the opposing goalkeeper with shots - the Huskies hitting sophomore Lindsay Parlee with 15 shots [of which five were on goal] - while the Cougars launched 11 shots, six on goal, at the Husky keeper. But none of the 26 total shots were able to find the back of the net through regulation plus a pair of 10-minute overtimes and Parlee recorded her fifth shutout of the year.

The Cougars, playing without their main scoring weapon - junior forward , who is practicing with the USA U-20 national team as they prepare for World Cup play - were led in shot attempts by junior Mallory Fox, with three shots, two on goal.

With the tie, head coach Matt Potter is now 4-1-1 all-time against the Huskies.

Wazzu plays Arizona at Cougarland Field in Pullman on Friday, November 7 at 3:pm.
