Sullinger leads way to Boo Championship

MORE: Boo Williams: Smith among Day 1 stars | Boo Williams: Teague and Barton impress

HAMPTON, Va.- Team Final put up a strong fight in the finals of the Boo Williams Invitational, but a monster effort by Jared Sullinger was just too much for the team from Philly to overcome.

Behind a 22 point and 18 rebound effort by Sullinger, All Ohio Red took home a Boo Williams Invitational championship with a 75-72 victory. Sullinger simply was just too powerful for the inside players of Team Final. For the game he shot 9-18 from the field and 4-5 from the line.

But Mike Gilchrist and Dion Waiters were no slouch for Team Final. Gilchrist, who is matching the same level of play as Austin Rivers and Marquis Teague in the 2011 class, scored 27 points on an efficient 11-15 from the field, 1-2 from behind the arc and 4-4 from the line. Gilchrist also grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked three shots and dished out three assists.

Waiters came up big especially in the second half for Team Final. After scoring six points in the first half, Waiters put in 11 points in the second half, many of which were big shots but his three-point attempt with less than 30 seconds left and his team down one point came up short. On the game Waiters, a Syracuse commitment, shot 8-15 from the field and 1-4 from behind the arc while registering five rebounds, two steals and four assists.

17-Under Semifinals

Team Final 64, Boo Williams 61

In a remarkable last four seconds, Team Final hit consecutive shots just inside half court. After banking in a desperation shot on the sideline with 1.3 seconds left to tie the game at 61-61. Then on the ensuing in bounds pass Mike Gilchrist stole the ball at the center of the midcourt after Luke Cothron bobbled the ball. In a bat of an eyelash Gilchrist hoisted it up and sank the game winner with no time left on the clock.

Gilchrist's shot spoiled another impressive outing by Duke commitment Andre Dawkins, who finished with a game high 25 points. Markus Kennedy led Team Final with 17 points. Gilchrist and Tyreek Duren scored 12 points each for Team Final. For Boo Williams Travis McKie had 12 points and James McAdoo scored 11 points.

All Ohio Red 63, Team STAT 60

Austin Rivers had to carry the load for Team STAT after Brandon Knight had to leave the game midway through the first half with a hip injury. Rivers ended with a game high 24 points while an overpowering Jared Sullinger paced All Ohio Red with 22 points.

16-Under Championship

Playaz Basketball Club 76, St. Louis Eagles 63

Bradley Beal's 29 points wasn't enough to overcome the Playaz' balanced attack. Myles Mack, Myles Davis and Jordan Allen each had 15 points for the Playaz. Charles Oliver added 14 points. Post players Derrick Randall and Desmond Hubert were impressive on the glass, and 2012 prospect Kyle Anderson is the straw that stirs the drink or the Playaz.

15-Under Championship

Houston Defenders 66, Team Takeover 58

The story in this game is that the Houston Defenders are comprised of eighth graders playing up an age group. Not only were the Defenders good enough to win the 15-Under division, but they very well could have competed in the 16-Under division with their size and talent. Leading the way for the Defenders were 6-foot-5 twins Aaron Harrison and Andrew Harrison. Both players spent time running the point and have a physical and skilled game way beyond their years. Aaron scored a team high 14 points while Aaron was right behind him with 13 points.
