Anderson Cracks the Whip At U.S. Olympic Trials

Current and former Cougars were making their marks all over the track at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. Freshman hurdling sensation Jeshua Anderson continued his streak of impressive runs as recorded the fastest time in the 400-meter hurdle preliminaries. Anderson, coming off winning the title at the NCAA championships and the USA Junior championships, ran a 49.05 time to advance to the semifinals. Former Cougar Eric Dudley ran a 49.39 and also advanced to the semifinals.
Meanwhile, in the heptathlon, former Wazzu heptathlete Diana Pickler sat in second place behind Hyleas Fountain after Day One of the competition. Pickler won the high jump and finished with 3750 points to Fountain's 3989. Julie Pickler - Diana's sister – finished the first day in 11th place with 3386 points.

Another former Cougar – world champion distance runner Bernard Lagat - placed third in his heat and easily advanced to the 5000-meter semifinals.
The news was not so good for former Cougar triple jumper Blessing Ufodiama, who finished 21st out of 22 competitors and failed to advance.
