Beavers Upend Cougs

The Washington State University women's hoop team began Pac-10 play with a road game against Oregon State and the result was a 63-49 loss to the Ducks in Corvallis. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 5-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Foul trouble and poor shooting doomed the Cougars in this game but Wazzu took an early 29-27 lead into halftime after coming out strong, led by true freshman point guard Kiki Moore's 11 first-half points after sophomore stars April Cook and Jazmine Perkins were forced to sit for a good portion of the half with early foul trouble.

But Moore's scoring binge could not last through the second half and no other Cougars were able to fill the scoring void. The Cougars shot a woeful 26% in the second half, making only nine shots from the field - and three of those were by Moore. Perkins fouled out and the rest of the team combined for 30 points as Moore finished with a season-high 19 points for the game.
No other Cougar reached double figures in scoring but sophomore forward Rosie Tarnowski contributed nine points and seven rebounds for Wazzu.
The Cougars continue Pac-10 conference play in the 2009-2010 season on Sunday, January 3 at 2 PM when they play Oregon in Eugene
