Castain Clocks Spuds

There is a reason why the Washington State University soccer team has gone to two consecutive NCAA tournaments and is ranked 21st in the nation in the first 2010 pre-season poll of the year and the University of Idaho found out what that reason was on Saturday as Wazzu pummeled the Vandals, 5-1 in Moscow in an exhibition "friendly" behind three goals from true freshman Michaela Castain. The reason is a foundation of program quality stemming directly from head coach Matt Potter and depth of talent as Castain proved with her hat trick.
Castain wasted no time in scoring on the Vandals, drawing a penalty in the box and hitting the resulting penalty kick just four minutes into the match. Just under eight minutes later, Castain struck again to give Wazzu a 2-0 lead and in the 19th minute, sophomore Shannon McFadden scored for a 3-0 lead barely 20 minutes into the match.

Idaho scored their lone goal 16 minutes into the second half only to have Castain strike again with less than 11 minutes left in the match to give the Cougars a 4-1 lead and another true freshman, Roslyn Pontius finished off the Cougar offensive onslaught with a late goal.
21st-ranked Wazzu opens their 2010 regular season against sixth-ranked Florida State on Friday, August 20 at 3pm at Cougarland Field in Pullman
