Casto And Thompson Add 10 In Win Over France

With one international game under their belts, Wazzu men's hoop sophomores DeAngelo Casto and Klay Thompson did not start but both Casto and Thompson helped the USA in their preliminary round game against France as the Americans built a 19-10 first quarter lead and never trailed from there in eventually securing a comfortable 71-55 victory over the French at the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.
Casto continued with his hot hand as he hit two of his three shot attempts for a 67% shooting night and is now seven-for-nine from the field for a 78% accuracy rate that leads the tournament so far. Casto finished with six points, five rebounds and two blocked shots in just over 12 minutes of playing time while Thompson tossed in four points and brought down four boards in approximately 19 minutes on the court.

The Americans shot out to a quick 9-0 lead and never trailed. France closed to within three at 11-8 – but that is as close as the French would come as the USA gradually pulled away to as much as a 25 point lead in the third quarter before stepping off the gas late in the game.
The USA will next play Egypt on Friday, July 3 at 4pm [Pacific].
