Cougar Offense Rolls Again

It was so good last week for the offense of the Washington State University Cougar football team, that they decided to bring an encore performance in their third and final spring scrimmage of the year. Everybody got into the act but it was receiver Michael Willis who put up some of the most notable numbers with 129 yards on six receptions – one for a touchdown.
Incumbent starting quarterback Gary Rogers had another good day as did backup Kevin Lopina. The duo combined to go 22-of-34 for 280 yards and three touchdowns with Rogers throwing 12-of-19 for 126 yards and two touchdowns and Lopina tossing one touchdown on 10-for-15 passing for 154 yards.

Willis, who has battled injury problems during his time at Wazzu, broke out in a big way and was one of seven receivers to catch a pass in the scrimmage. Reid McEllrath also caught a touchdown among his five receptions, as did tight end Devin Frischknecht, who caught two passes total.
Wazzu rushers also found success as they racked up 159 yards with Jace Perry, Logwone Mitz, Joe Campbell and Chris Ivory all averaging over five yards per carry with Perry leading the way with 42 yards on three carries.
The defense recorded three sacks, one each from Chima Nwachukwu in his new safety role, linebacker Andrew Kreutz and defensive lineman Adam Hineline.
Special teams play was led by kicker Wade Penner, who made four of five field goals including two from beyond 50 yards.
