Cougs Beat Cal

Pride was on the line at Cougarland Field on Friday evening as the Washington State University soccer team – who were 57 seconds away from an undefeated weekend in Los Angeles against UCLA and USC last week – earned a measure of retribution with a 2-1 win over California to get their first Pac-10 win of the year and improve to 7-3-4 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.
True freshman Tiara Pittman did the game-winning honors for Wazzu, serving up the game-winner with 1:11 left in the match after receiving a ball from junior forward Kiersten Dallstream. The win came before the largest crowd of the year [738] for the Cougars and kept Wazzu firmly in place for a possible NCAA bid at the end of the season.

The Cougars took the lead when Dallstream scored her fourth goal of the season early in the first half but the Bears tied the game when sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Parleee stopped an initial shot by Cal star Alex Morgan only to watch Valerie Barnes tap in the rebound.
For the Cougars, it was head coach Matt Potter's 52nd career victory – tying him for the school record – and kept them undefeated at home at 4-0.
Wazzu plays at Cougarland Field against Stanford at noon on Sunday.
