Cougs Swept In Berkeley
The Washington State University volleyball team made a good showing before falling to Stanford last night but they may have used all the fuel in their tanks in Palo Alto as they were handily swept by California at Berkeley. With the loss, the Cougars are now 14-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play in the 2009 season.
In the first set, the Bears had their way with the Cougars, jumping out to a nine point lead and then cruising in for an easy 25-14 win.
In the second set, Wazzu made more of a game of it, clawing themselves to within three at 20-17 but then watching helplessly as the Bears finished them off with a 5-2 spree for the 25-19 victory.
California finally put the Cougars out of their misery in the third set with a 7-3 scoring run after the Cougars had closed to within three at 19-16.
No Cougars were in double figures in either kills or digs. Senior Cassie Robbins and junior Brittany Tillman each had six kills to lead the team while freshman Oceana Bush led the team with nine digs. Senior setter Renee Bordelon added 25 assists.
Wazzu continues Pac-10 play against USC at 7pm on Friday, October 16 at Bohler Gym in Pullman.
