CougZone Athlete Of The Year - Jeshua Anderson

The last time that Jeshua Anderson finished in anything but first place? Well it has not been in the month of June – so far. Anderson, the Washington State University track and field freshman sensation, won the Pac-10 title last month, then won the 400-meter hurdle NCAA championship earlier this month, then won the USA Junior championship in the event last week and then came to the U. S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon and left no doubt of his fiery month and promptly won his heat and recorded the fastest time in the preliminaries in the process. CougZone voters also left no doubt and made Anderson their 2008 CougZone Athlete of the Year.
It has been an unprecedented run of success for the freshman as he set the school record in winning the NCAA crown with a time of 48.69 – breaking the longest-standing record in the books, that of 49.27 set by Boyd Gittins some 40 years ago – then went to Ohio and broke a 24-year-old meet record in winning the USA Junior title there in 49.28.

Anderson is still not done though. He traveled to the U.S. Olympic trials and opened up the preliminaries by running the fastest time of the day – 49.05 – nearly a half-second faster than his nearest competitor and ahead of the two main competitors for the three Olympic berths - Kerron Clement and Bershawn Jackson.
For his outstanding year [which is not yet over], CougZone voters anointed Anderson as their top Wazzu athlete of the year, but other worthy athletes did receive votes and below is the complete breakdown.
