Fright Night, The Sequel

The Washington State University Cougar football team was unable to make the score close at the end as they had done in their previous three games and the Arizona State Sun Devils obliterated the Cougars, 42-0 in Tempe, sending the Cougars to their seventh straight loss. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 1-8 overall and remain winless at 0-6 in conference play.

Once again, the game began poorly for the Cougars as they went three-and out on their first offensive possession and Arizona State had no trouble marching in for a 7-0 lead on a seven-yard rushing touchdown by sophomore Cameron Marshall. The sun Devils added another touchdown on a Steven Threet nine yard touchdown pass to receiver Jamal Miles to make it 14-0 in the first quarter. Wazzu sophomore quarterback Jeff Tuel then tossed his 10th interception of the year on the ensuing Cougars' possession and ASU took little time in converting the turnover into points at Deantre Lewis ran it in from three yards out for a 21-0 lead. ASU finished out the first half with another Threet-to-Miles touchdown pass for a 28-0 margin.

The Sun Devils added another touchdown in the third quarter for a 35-0 lead before sending in the reserves later in the quarter. ASU then added another touchdown for a 42-0 lead as backup quarterback Brock Osweiler tossed a touchdown pass for the Sun Devils.

It was the first shutout suffered by the Cougars since last year's season-ending Apple Cup loss to Washington, 30-0.

NOTES:

- The Cougars' first three offensive possessions of the game had a pair of three-and-outs followed by an interception thrown by Tuel.

- After only giving up three sacks last week, the Cougar offensive line gave up five this week to remain as the nation's worst team in sacks allowed.

- The Cougars have now lost by double digit margins to the last 17 consecutive Division I opponents they have played.
