Jackrabbits Ambush Cougars

The Washington State University Cougar women's hoop team went ahead early but were ambushed by a big first half run and lost to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, 63-58 in Brookings. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 2-2 overall on the year.
Unlike the previous game when they fell behind Wisconsin by 10 points in that game's opening minutes, Wazzu turned the tables and jumped out to an early 17-6 lead on South Dakota State after Katie Grad bucket with just over seven minutes gone in the game. But the Jackrabbits came storming back to not only tie the game but take the lead as SDSU went on a 30-12 run to end the first half and take a 36-29 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

Wazzu gradually came back in the second half, slowly trimming South Dakota State's lead until Wazzu finally caught the Jackrabbits at 48-all with a basket from Tia Presley. But once again, SDSU went on a run - this time a 10-0 run - to reclaim the lead at 58-52 with 3:29 left in the game. Wazzu answered with a 6-0 run of their own and tied the game at 58 on a pair of free throws from Presley with 2:18 remaining, but that would be as close as the Cougars could get. Jazmine Perkins missed a three-point attempt at tying the game with 22 seconds left and South Dakota State put the game away with free throws after that.
Three Cougars were in double figures in scoring led by Carly Noyes with 12 points and followed by Presley and Sage Romberg with 11 apiece while Perkins also grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Cougars.
NOTES:
- It was the second road loss of the year for the Cougars.
- The Cougars shot 40% from the free throw line.
