Washington State will have a new special teams coordinator in 2018.

According to FootballScoop.com, Mike Leach has hired Matt Brock from Bowling Green to direct WSU's special teams, signaling Eric Mele will have a new position to coach this coming season.

WSU is still without a running backs coach since Jim Mastro left for Oregon in late January.

Brock served as special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at BGSU in 2017, his second season with the Falcons program. Previously, Brocks served as a defensive quality control assistant for Texas Tech, but occasionally did some on-field coaching when Texas Tech coaches departed for other jobs..

He coached the defensive line in the Texas Bowl against LSU in 2015. In his second year at Texas Tech, Brock was promoted to inside linebackers coach early in the 2014 season following the departure of defensive coordinator Matt Wallerstedt and served in that capacity during the remainder of that season.

Brock graduated from Baker University (Baldwin City, Kan.) in 2011, amassing 277 career tackles and seven interceptions as a linebacker while leading the league in total tackles and tackles per game in 2010.

While Brock is on his way to Pullman, Washington State's highly respected strength and conditioning coach is departing for the NFL. FootballScoop.com reported Wednesday evening that Jason Loscalzo, who has been at WSU since 2012 and five years at Boston College before that, will become the Chicago Bears new strength coach.

Loccalzo's exit continues the raid upon WSU's coaching staff by college and pro programs throughout the country. Loscalzo is the fifth WSU coach to leave Pullman since the end of the 2017 season, joining Alex Grinch (co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State), Roy Manning (UCLA), Clay McGuire (Texas Tech) and Jim Mastro (Oregon).
