Lopina Has A Perfect Day

Redshirt senior quarterback Kevin Lopina was perfect - going six-for-six with one touchdown pass - on Saturday, as the Washington State football team held its first scrimmage of fall camp at Martin Stadium.
"It was pretty clean in a lot of ways," head coach Paul Wulff said. "Our defense forced turnovers, which was good to see. But on the flip side, the offense fumbled it. I thought there were some plays made in the running and passing game. At times we got some pressure on the quarterback and there were some missed tackles and things, but after eight practices I am pretty darn pleased."
Lopina connected on all six of his pass attempts for 94 yards, including a 22-yard touchdown to redshirt senior tight end Zach Tatman. WSU quarterbacks combined to complete 18-of-23 passes for 218 yards and no interceptions.
Of the 11 Cougars to catch a pass, freshman wide receiver Esa Johnwell led the Cougars with four catches for 38 yards. The three longest pass plays of the afternoon all went to tight ends - a 34-yard reception by redshirt junior Aaron Gehring, a 31-yard catch by redshirt freshman Skylar Stormo and a 22-yard scoring catch by Tatman.
Redshirt sophomore running back Logwone Mitz led the Cougars with six carries for 32 yards. Redshirt junior James Montgomery and redshirt senior Dwight Tardy each carried the ball four times, gaining 20 and 17 yards, respectively.
Six Cougar defensive linemen recorded sacks on the afternoon, including redshirt junior defensive tackle Toby Turpin (1/-2), junior defensive end Casey Hamlett (1/-4), freshman defensive end Travis Long (1/-4), redshirt senior defensive end Jesse Feagin (1/-8), freshman defensive tackle Justin Clayton (1/-5) and redshirt freshman defensive end Adam Coerper (1/-5).
