News and Notes - Stanford

The Cougs will get some media exposure in two weeks when the Cougars host UCLA for Homecoming. WSU has announced that FSN has picked up the game which will be broadcast at 3:30 pm PST.
The Cougars took some injury hits against Oregon State, and there is the potential for as many as three new starters in the lineup for Stanford. Trandon Harvey will start if Jason Hill is not ready. Harvey stepped up well against the Beavers when Hill went down early in the second half and finished with 4 catches for 92 yards. Greg Trent will start at middle linebacker in place of Will Derting who will be out for at least two more games. If Alex Teems is not ready to play, Don Turner will get the start at left cornerback.

Oregon State was Jerome Harrison's 7th straight 100 yard game. It was also Harrison's second straight game with 3 scores….For the week leading up to OSU, Tony Thompson and Jessie Baines shared offensive scout team awards while Terence Simmons was named for defense. All are walk-ons.
The second half is becoming a problem for WSU. The Cougar defense is allowing opponents to convert almost 50% of their third down attempts in the third quarter, and 35% of third down attempts in the fourth. Cougar opponents have put 70 points on the board in the second half – twice what the Cougs give up in the first half….Against the Beavers, WSU scored 3 points in the second half. Except for the OSU game, the Cougars had been getting at least half their points in the third and fourth quarters.
Bill Doba is 1-1 vs. Stanford and has never coached against Stanford coach Walt Harris….On the season, Stanford started out by beating Navy 41-38, then lost in embarrassing fashion to UC Davis 17-20. After a bye week, Stanford was handled easily by Oregon 20-44…. Both Stanford's offense and defense rate low on the D-1A list. The Cardinal defense is giving up 471.33 yards of offense per game (113th D-1A), while Stanford's offense is averaging only 276 offensive yards per game (108th D-1A)….One of Stanford captains is free safety Calvin Armstrong, number 25.
