Offense Issues Payback

The Washington State University football team held its second scrimmage of the autumn practice session on Saturday morning at Martin Stadium, and just one week after - as expected - the Cougar defense had their way with the Cougar offense in the first scrimmage of the year, the Cougar offense got some payback in the second scrimmage.
Wazzu quarterbacks sophomore Jeff Tuel, operating with the first team unit, and redshirt junior Marshall Lobbestael combined to complete 15-of-23 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns, and neither threw an interception. Tuel went 8-of-14 for 104 yards and two touchdowns with the first team, and Lobbestael completed 7-of-9 for 119 yards and one touchdown with the second team. In three attempts, third-string quarterback David Gilbertson failed to complete a pass in the scrimmage.

Tuel hit senior Daniel Blackledge for a four-yard score and redshirt senior Jeffrey Solomon for a 28-yarder while true freshman Marquess Wilson contributed a 44-yard catch-and-run from Lobbestael.
Wilson led all receivers with five catches and 110 yards, while Solomon (three catches for 68 yards) and redshirt senior running back Chantz Staden (two catches for 22 yards) also had multiple receptions. Staden also led the Cougars in rushing, picking up 25 yards on four carries.
The defense did not force any turnovers in this scrimmage but they were able to get pressure on the quarterback, picking up a pair of sacks from redshirt sophomores Dan Spitz [who is suspended for the first nine games this season] and JC transfer Steven Hoffart.
Wazzu's next scrimmage is currently scheduled for 4pm on Thursday, August 26.
