Both of the Creek's hoop teams named their all-conference squads last week. The women named Tara VanDerveer as the coach of the year and Stanford sophomore guard Candice Wiggins as player of the year. The men named Ben Howland as coach of the year and Washington senior guard [/db]Brandon Roy[/db] as player of the year.
Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, for the first time ever, the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be televised live. CBS will provide the final-day coverage, which will air on June 10 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. [Pacific].
Also, regional officials for overseeing basketball officiating were named and former Idaho athletic director, Bill Belknap was named as one of the regional directors for men's basketball.
UCLA
In men's hoop, UCLA defeated California and Stanford to win the Pac-10 title and improve to 24-6 overall and 14-4 in conference play with a 13 RPI. Sophomore guard Arron Afflalo was named as the conference's player of the week. Forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute was named as the conference's freshmen of the year.
In women's hoop, the Bruins beat California, Arizona State and Stanford to win the Pac-10 tournament title and improve to 20-10 overall with a 21 RPI.
Arizona
In men's hoop, Arizona beat WSU, but lost to Washington to move to 18-11 overall and 11-7 in conference play with a 24 RPI. Senior guard Hassan Adams was charged with a DUI and was suspended for Pac-10 tournament play.
In women's hoop, the Wildcats defeated Oregon but lost to Stanford in the conference tourney and finishes their season at 8-22 overall with a 167 RPI.
Oregon
Portland State was added to the 2006 football schedule after Utah State had dropped Oregon.
In men's hoop, Oregon lost to Oregon State in the final game of the regular season to finish 7-11 in conference play but opened up the Pac-10 tournament with a victory over WSU to move to 14-17 overall with a 162 RPI.
In women's hoop, the Ducks lost to Arizona and finished their regular season at 14-15 overall.
California
In men's hoop, California lost to UCLA but defeated USC to move to 18-9 overall and 12-6 in conference play with a 59 RPI.
In women's hoop, the Bears lost to UCLA to drop to 18-11 overall with a 64 RPI. Alexis Gray-Lawson was named as the conference's freshman of the year.
WSU
In men's hoop, Wazzu lost to Arizona and Arizona State to end regular season play at 4-14 in conference, then lost to Oregon in the opening round of the Pac-10 tournament to end their season at 11-17 overall with a 152 RPI.
In women's hoop, the Cougars lost to Oregon State to end their season at 8-20 overall with a 189 RPI.
Stanford
In men's hoop, Stanford beat USC but lost to UCLA to move to 15-12 overall and 11-7 in conference play with a 78 RPI.
In women's hoop, the Cardinal beat Arizona and USC but lost to UCLA to move to 23-7 overall with an 18 RPI.
Arizona State
Arizona high school coach John Wrenn was named as the Sun Devils' new running backs coach. Arizona State scheduled a home and away series with Wisconsin for 2010 and 2012.
In men's hoop, Arizona State lost to Washington but defeated WSU to end conference play at 5-13. ASU then lost to Oregon State in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament to end their season at 11-17 overall with a 182 RPI.
In women's hoop, the Sun Devils beat Oregon State but lost to UCLA to move to 24-6 overall with a 12 RPI.
USC
In men's hoop, the Trojans were swept by Stanford and California to drop to 17-12 overall and 8-10 in conference play with a 113 RPI.
In women's hoop, the Women of Troy beat Washington but lost to Stanford to move to 18-11 overall with a 47 RPI.
Oregon State
In men's hoop, the Beavers beat Oregon to end their regular season at 5-13 in conference play, then defeated Arizona State in the opening round of the Pac-10 tournament to improve to 13-17 overall with a 182 RPI.
In women's hoop, Oregon State defeated WSU but lost to Arizona State to move to 15-14 overall with a 106 RPI.
Washington
In men's hoop, the Huskies swept Arizona State and Arizona to improve to 24-5 overall and 13-5 in conference play with a 20 RPI.
In women's hoop, Washington lost to USC to drop to 18-10 overall with a 48 RPI. Sophomore guard Ryan Appleby was named as the conference's newcomer of the year.
