It is a slow period at the Creek as they begin to emerge from the gap between the end of winter sports and getting into the meat of the schedules for the spring sports, so the conference took the time to name 24-year conference veteran football official Dave Cutaia as the conference's new coordinator of football officiating, replacing the retiring Verle Sorgen.

Meanwhile at NCAA HQ, it was equally slow but the Director's Cup standings were updated and the Pac-10 continues to be well represented as five schools are in the Top 15 and all schools are in the Top 85 with Stanford, of course, leading the way.

Washington

In men's hoop, freshman center Spencer Hawes has elected to make himself eligible for the NBA draft but will not hire an agent.

In women's hoop, Duke assistant Tia Jackson was hired as the new head coach for the Huskies.

Arizona

In men's hoop, sophomore forward Marcus Williams made himself eligible for the NBA draft.

Stanford

In women's tennis Stanford remained the nation's top-ranked team with a home sweep of Washington and WSU to improve to 17-1 on the year.

Oregon State

In volleyball, Oregon State signed outside hitter Lauren Rinderknecht, a transfer from the University of Miami [Fla].

In men's hoop, junior guard Chamberlain Oguchi has elected to transfer.

UCLA

In men's hoop, junior guard Arron Afflalo announced he will make himself eligible for the NBA draft. Assistant coach Kerry Keating was hired as the new head coach at Santa Clara.

WSU

In women's hoop, head coach Sherri Murrell resigned after five years at the helm

In track and field, senior heptathlete Diana Pickler broke the school and conference record in the heptathlon and was named as the conference's women's track athlete of the week

In rowing, the Cougars defeated the Huskies for the third consecutive year as the varsity eight and second varsity eight both were victorious at the Apple Cup regatta.

California

In men's hoop, junior guard Omar Wilkes will not return for his senior season and junior center DeVon Hardin has made himself available for the NBA draft but will not sign with an agent. Assistant coach Dennis Gates was hired as an assistant coach at Northern Illinois.

USC

In men's golf, freshman Rory Hie was named as the conference's golfer of the month for March.

Arizona State

In track and field, the Sun Devil women were ranked #1 in the nation in some of the latest polls while the men came in at #7.
