The 2009-10 championship season is now officially underway at the Creek as nine of the conference's 10 women's soccer teams have played their first match with the conference going 4-5 overall in those matches.
Seven conference schools received a grade of "B" or better on a list of green schools compiled by the Sierra Club.
Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, Washington State University was selected as the site for the 2010 NCAA Women's Rowing Championships scheduled to be held at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center in Gold River, California.

In women's soccer, the Wildcats lost their season opener to UC-Irvine.

In football, senior tight end Tad Smith is out for the season with an ACL knee injury.
UCLA
In women's soccer, the Bruins were blown out by North Carolina, 7-2, in their season opener.
Arizona State
In women's soccer, the Sun Devils defeated UC-Irvine in their season opener.
Washington
In women's golf, senior Molly Aronsson won the Vermont state amateur championship.
Stanford
In women's soccer, the Cardinal easily defeated Hawai'i, 6-2, in their season opener.
WSU
In women's soccer, 19th-ranked Wazzu defeated Idaho in their season opener.
In track and field, former Wazzu distance ace Bernard Lagat won a bronze medal in the men's 1500 meters and a silver medal in the men's 5000 meters at the World Track & Field Championships in Berlin.
USC
In football, the Trojans lost freshman defensive back Patrick Hall for the season with an ACL knee injury and sophomore defensive lineman Armond Armstead for at least six weeks due to a foot injury.
