All innocent bystanders move aside – football season is about to begin. But before that happens, the Creek announced a few additions. Oregon State graduate Kristina Brand becomes the new Director of Video and Internet Operations while Washington alum Mike Bruscas and WSU alum Becca Faulds become communications interns for the 2006-07 season.
Meanwhile at NCAA HQ, tennis athletes Suzi Babos [California], Alice Barnes [Stanford], Anne Yelsey [Stanford] and Benjamin Kohlloeffel [UCLA] were named to the 2006 Intercollegiate Tennis Association [ITA] all-star team.
Oregon
Defensive lineman Victor Filipe is expected to miss the first two games with a dislocated left elbows gained his eligibility for the 2006 season.
The NCAA awarded the four-day 2010 Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet to the University of Oregon. The meet will be held on June 9-12, 2010.
Oregon lost their season opener in women's soccer, 1-0, to Long Beach State.
The Ducks beat UC-Irvine and Portland State to begin the season 2-0 in volleyball.
California
Nate Longshore was named as the starting quarterback for the opener against Tennessee. Redshirt freshman defensive back Virdell Larkins transferred to Laney College and the Bears received a verbal commitment from running back Brandon Jackson.
15th-ranked California defeated Indiana and Wisconsin to begin the season 2-0 in women's soccer. Senior defender Alivia Mazura was named as the conference's player of the week.
The Bears beat Montana, Baylor and UC-Davis to start the year at 3-0 in volleyball. Junior outside hitter Angie Pressey was named as the conference's player of the week.
USC
19th-ranked USC defeated UC-Irvine and tied UC-Santa Barbara to start the year at 1-0-1 in women's soccer.
The Women of Troy defeated North Texas, Texas-Pan American and Texas State to begin the year 3-0 in volleyball.
Arizona
Receiver Bobby McCoy will miss at least the first two games with a foot injury. Receiver Delashaun Dean and punter Kennyn Crier will redshirt this season. Linebacker Akin Akinnyi could be out for the season after recovering from lung surgery.
Arizona defeated Oakland [Michigan] but lost to Michigan to begin their season at 1-1 in women's soccer.
The Wildcats beat Siena, Northern Colorado and San Francisco to start the year at 3-0 in volleyball.
WSU
Projected starting defensive lineman Matt Mullenix suffered a torn ACL in his knee and will miss the season. Safety DeWayne Patterson was ruled academically ineligible and punter Fritz Brayton has elected to transfer, possibly to Eastern Washington.
WSU defeated UNLV and tied Gonzaga to begin the year 1-0-1 in soccer.
The Cougars defeated Gonzaga, North Dakota State, Weber State and Portland but lost to South Dakota State to begin the season 4-1 in volleyball.
Stanford
Backup quarterback T.C. Ostrander is questionable for the season opener against Oregon after injuring his hamstring in practice last week.
Stanford lost to Utah and Wake Forest to begin the year 0-2 in women's soccer.
The Cardinal defeated UC-Santa Barbara to start the season 1-0 in volleyball.
Washington
Washington defeated Hawai'i and Oklahoma to begin the season at 2-0 in women's soccer.
The Huskies defeated Ohio but lost to Texas to start the year at 1-1 in volleyball.
Arizona State
Jonathan Johnson was named as the starting punter. Defensive linemen Loren Howard and Tranell Morant will not play and safety Troy Nolan is listed as doubtful for the season opener against Northern Arizona.
The Sun Devils defeated UC-Irvine to open the season at 1-0 in women's soccer.
Arizona State beat Northeastern, Utah Valley State and Loyola Marymount to begin the season at 3-0 in volleyball.
UCLA
6th-ranked UCLA lost to Penn State but defeated Maryland to begin the year at 1-1 in women's soccer.
The Bruins beat Tennessee Tech, Western Michigan and Cincinnati to move to 3-0 on the season in volleyball.
Oregon State
Oregon State lost to Gonzaga and tied UNLV to open the season at 0-1-1 in women's soccer.
The Beavers defeated Oral Roberts but lost to Cal Poly and UNLV to open the season at 1-2 in volleyball.
