The Creek was affected by the lingering aftermath of Hurricane Katrina as Arizona State's football game at Louisiana State was moved from Baton Rouge to Tempe as Baton Rouge has been utilized as one of the cities to accommodate hurricane evacuees.
Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the organization is assisting schools affected by the hurricane to deal with schedules and services severely altered by the aftermath of the natural disaster.
The NCAA has granted Central Michigan and Utah the use of their Native American imagery, citing the approval of the schools' respective namesake sovereign tribal affiliations.
Arizona State
The 15th-ranked Sun Devils defeated Temple, 63-16 to move to 1-0 on the year and are ranked 19th. Junior running back Randy Hill will not play in this week's game against LSU after suffering a high ankle sprain.
In men's hoop, would-be freshman guard Seketoure Henry was ruled academically ineligible.
Senior forward Elizabeth Bogus was named as the Pac-10 player of the week in women's soccer.
The Huskies lost to Air Force, 20-17, to fall to 0-1 on the season. Senior offensive lineman Joe Toledo will miss this week's game against California with a high ankle sprain while junior defensive lineman Brandon Ala will also miss the game with a knee injury.

The Wildcats dropped their season opener to Utah, 27-24, and are 0-1 on the year. Senior defensive lineman Copeland Bryan and senior tight end Brad Brittain will miss this week's game against Northern Arizona with an ankle and knee injury, respectively. Junior receiver B.J. Vickers is not practicing with the team and his status is unresolved.
Senior outside hitter Jennifer Abernathy was named as the Pac-10 player of the week in volleyball.
The Bruins defeated San Diego State 44-21, to move to 1-0 on the year. Ssenior linebacker Spencer Havner was named as the conference's defensive player of the week.
Freshman forward Kara Lang was named as the conference's women's soccer player of the week.
Freshman midfielder Sal Zizzo was named as the conference's player of the week in men's soccer.
The Cougars defeated regional rival Idaho, 38-26, for a 1-0 start on the season.
WSU upset 11th-ranked Tennessee but lost to Vanderbilt for an overall 3-1 record in soccer.
The Cougar volleyball squad lost to Idaho State and UC-Davis but defeated Toledo to even their season record at 2-2.
The Ducks defeated Houston, 38-24, to open their season at 1-0. Senior defensive lineman. Senior quarterback Kellen Clemens and junior punter Paul Martinez were named as the conference's offensive and special teams players of the week.
The third-ranked Cardinal volleyball team swept New Hampshire to move to 5-1 on the season.
The 16th-ranked Bears defeated Sacramento State, 41-3, to move to 1-0 on the year. Redshirt freshman quarterback Nathan Longshore suffered a broken ankle and will be lost for the season.
Oregon State
The Beavers defeated Portland State 41-14 to open up the year at 1-0.
Texas assistant Krista Reinking was added as an assistant coach in women's hoops.
