With the collegiate athletic season in full sway at the creek, conference teams are beginning to dominate the rankings with six Pac-10 teams populating the national poll in volleyball, six in football and five in women's soccer.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the NCAA will look at proposed legislation that would allow instant messaging as an allowable method of electronic communication with prospective student-athletes as well as a proposal regarding prize money for tennis athletes.

UCLA

In football, the Bruins defeated BYU, 27-17, to remain undefeated at 2-0 and 1-0 in conference play. Defensive lineman Brigham Harwell will miss a few weeks with a knee [MCL] injury. Junior punter Aaron Perez was named as the conference's special teams player of the week.

Oregon

In football, the Ducks beat Michigan, 39-7, to improve to 2-0 overall. Senior quarterback Dennis Dixon was named as the conference's offensive player of the week.

In baseball, Oregon hired former Cal State-Fullerton head coach George Horton as head coach for its program launch in 2009.

California

In football, the Bears defeated Colorado State, 34-28, to improve to 2-0 overall. Senior linebacker Eric Morrah has left the program and redshirt freshman receiver Daniel Lofton has transferred to Hawai'i.

USC

In football, defensive back Josh Pinkard will miss the Nebraska game due to a knee injury.

Washington

In football, Washington defeated Boise State, 24-10, to improve to 2-0 overall. Senior defensive back Roy Lewis was named as the conference's defensive player of the week.

WSU

In football, the Cougars beat San Diego State, 45-17, to improve to 1-1 overall.

In soccer, Wazzu beat Gonzaga and tied Utah to remain undefeated at 2-0-1 on the year. Senior defender Allison Scurich was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite team of the Week. The Cougars are ranked eighth in the West region and receiving votes in the national poll.

In volleyball, WSU beat Hofstra and Nevada but lost to UNLV to move to 9-2 overall.

Arizona State

In football, the Sun Devils beat Colorado, 33-14, to improve to 2-0 overall. ASU received a verbal commitment from receiver Allante Battle.

Stanford

In volleyball, junior middle blocker Foluke Akinradewo was named as the conference's player of the week.

Oregon State

In football, the Beavers lost to Cincinnati, 34-3, to drop to 1-1 overall.

Arizona

In football, the Wildcats defeated Northern Arizona, 45-24, to improve to 1-1 overall.
