The Creek is abuzz as there is a continued national presence of conference teams dominating the rankings with six Pac-10 teams populating the national poll in volleyball, five in women's soccer – including Wazzu making their first appearance in school history – and three in football.
Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the NCAA introduced a proposal that will ban schools from cutting financial aid to athletes for any injury or medical condition including pregnancy and eating disorders. The proposal may be put into effect as early as autumn. The NCAA has also teamed with the national governing body for USA swimming to develop a national times database that would ease registrations for championship meets.
Oregon
In football, the Ducks defeated Fresno State, 52-21, to remain undefeated at 3-0.
Arizona
In football, the Wildcats lost to New Mexico, 29-27, to fall to 1-2 overall. Arizona reserves Tyler Lyon, Cole Graybill, Kyle Monson and Craig Sedoris were arrested for underage drinking.
Oregon State
In football, the Beavers defeated Idaho State, 61-10, to improve to 2-1 overall.
UCLA
In football, the Bruins lost to Utah, 44-6, to drop to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Washington
In football, Washington lost to Ohio State, 33-14, to fall to 2-1 overall.
USC
In football, the Trojans beat Nebraska, 49-31, to improve to 2-0 overall. Running back Stafon Johnson was named as the conference's offensive player of the week. Junior defensive back Josh Pinkard is expected to miss the season with a knee injury.
In volleyball, senior outside hitter Asia Kaczor was named as the conference's player of the week.
WSU
In football, the Cougars beat Idaho, 45-28, to improve to 2-1 overall.
In soccer, 23rd-ranked Wazzu defeated Oklahoma State and Princeton to remain undefeated at 4-0-1. Senior goalkeeper Brynn Bemis was named as the conference's player of the week.
In volleyball, WSU lost to Ohio, Long Beach State and Denver to drop to 9-5 overall.
Stanford
In football, the Cardinal defeated San Jose State, 37-0, to improve to 1-1 overall. Safety Bo McNally and kicker Derek Belch were named as the conference's defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
California
In football, the Bears beat Louisiana Tech, 42-12, to improve to 3-0 overall.
Arizona State
In football, the Sun Devils defeated San Diego State, 34-13, to improve to 3-0 overall.
