The creek was full of holiday action this week as the top performers in cross country were named.
Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, there was even more action. USC won the men's water polo title, UCLA lost in the NCAA final for women's soccer while California lost in the quarterfinals. In volleyball, three schools – Arizona, Washington and UCLA – advanced to the Sweet 16. Finally, the first standings for the Director's Cup were released and 11-time defending champion Stanford once again stood on top with five conference schools getting points in the competition.
WSU
The Cougars received a verbal commitment from JC defensive back B.T. Walker. Walker selected Wazzu over Oregon State, Kansas State, Rutgers and Oklahoma.
In men's hoop, the Cougars defeated Wyoming and Kansas State to improve to 4-1 overall with a 114 RPI. Sophomore Daven Harmeling is out for the year with a shoulder injury.
In women's hoop, Wazzu defeated Cal State-Northridge and Boise State to improve to 6-1 overall with a 98 RPI.
Washington
Receiver Craig Chambers has indicated he intends to transfer to a Division I-AA school.
In men's hoop, Washington defeated Gonzaga to remain undefeated at 7-0 on the year with a 43 RPI.
In women's hoop, Washington lost to Baylor and Texas A&M to drop to 5-2 overall with a 19 RPI.
Stanford
In men's hoop, the Cardinal lost to UC-Davis to drop to 2-3 overall with a 301 RPI.
In women's hoop, Stanford beat Pacific, but lost to Tennessee to move to 4-2 overall with a 90 RPI.
The Cardinal defeated Nevada in the first round of the NCAA volleyball tournament but lost to Santa Clara in the second round.
Arizona State
The Sun Devils will play in the Insight Bowl against Rutgers. Quarterback Max Hall has indicated he will transfer to BYU.
In men's hoop, the Sun Devils defeated North Texas but lost to Minnesota to move to 4-1 overall with a 110 RPI.
In women's hoop, Arizona State defeated Memphis, Western Kentucky and New Mexico to improve to 7-1 overall with a 13 RPI.
USC
The top-ranked Trojans defeated UCLA, 66-19, to finish the season undefeated at 12-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play. USC will play Texas in the Rose Bowl.
In men's hoop, the Trojans defeated UC-Riverside and BYU to improve to 4-2 overall with a 212 RPI.
In women's hoop, the Women of Troy beat TCU and Loyola Marymount to improve to 5-2 overall with a 123 RPI.
Oregon
The Ducks will play Oklahoma in the Holiday Bowl.
In men's hoop, Oregon lost to Vanderbilt and Georgetown to drop to 4-2 overall and a 144 RPI.
In women's hoop, the Ducks are 5-1 overall with a 107 RPI.
UCLA
The Bruins lost to USC, 66-19, to finish the season at 9-2 overall and 6-2 in conference play. UCLA will face Northwestern in the Sun Bowl.
In men's hoop, UCLA defeated Coppin State to improve to 6-1 overall with a 98 RPI.
In women's hoop, the Bruins beat UC-Irvine and Clemson, but lost to Oklahoma, to move to 4-3 overall with a 48 RPI. Sophomore guard Noelle Quinn was named as the conference's player of the week.
Arizona
In men's hoop, the Wildcats lost to Houston to drop to 2-3 overall with an 86 RPI.
In women's hoop, Arizona beat Chicago State to improve to 4-2 overall with a 153 RPI.
Senior diver Tiffany Manning was named as the conference's diver of the month for October.
California
The Bears will play BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl.
In men's hoop, California defeated San Jose State, Akron and San Diego State to improve to 6-1 overall with a 95 RPI. Sophomore forward Leon Powe was named as the conference's player of the week.
In women's hoop, the Bears defeated UNLV to improve to 6-2 overall with a 23 RPI.
Oregon State
Linebacker coach Robin Ross was named as the new head coach at Western Washington University.
In men's hoop, the Beavers defeated UNLV to improve to 2-2 overall with a 163 RPI.
In women's hoop, Oregon State lost to Utah but defeated Utah Valley State, to move to 4-1 overall with a 151 RPI.
