WSOC: Cougs see halftime lead evaporate at Santa Clara

A 41st minute strike by Grace Hancock put the Cougs ahead heading into halftime, but two second half goals by Santa Clara (2-2) changed the day as the Broncos downed Washington State (1-1-1), 2-1, Sunday afternoon.

A defensive battle early, the Cougs took advantage of a free kick in the offensive third to set up their first goal. Maddy Haro's service found the head of Hancock, who found the back of the net for her first goal of the year. The lead would hold for less than 10 minutes when Santa Clara's Kellie Pey tied the game with a header of her own after the Cougs could not fully clear a Bronco corner.

In the 75th minute, the Broncos put in the game-winner when Myah Baksh got her head on a cross and deflected it off the post for the final tally.
