The Washington State University soccer team held top-ranked Stanford scoreless for 85 minutes but the Cardinal netted a header from Lindsay Taylor with just under five minutes remaining in the match to steal a 1-0 victory from the Cougars at Cougarland Field in Pullman. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 7-4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Stanford dominated play, as expected, but Wazzu got off a flurry of four unanswered shots midway through the first half - but the Cougars were unable to put any of them in the net and the two teams went into the halftime break knotted up at 0-0.
The second half was all Stanford as the Cardinal held the Cougars to only a single shot - 44 seconds into the half - for the entire period before Taylor hit the match-winner.
Stanford outshot the Cougars, 22-6, for the match.
Washington State University will continue their 2011 season with a Pac-12 conference match against California at noon on Sunday, October 2 at Cougarland Field in Pullman
