Wazzu Beats Back Bulldogs

The Washington State University men's hoop team embarked on their first legitimate road trip of the year and the Fresno State Bulldogs were waiting to ambush the Cougars but behind 28 points from Cougars' leading scorer Faisal Aden, Wazzu beat back the Bulldogs' upset attempt, 66-55 Friday evening in Fresno. With the victory, Wazzu remains unscathed so far in the 2010-11 season at 4-0 overall.
Wazzu and Fresno State battled each other tooth and nail for much of the first half with both teams taking small leads but neither team able to establish any kind of domination over the other. But the Bulldogs finally emerged on top, going into the locker room with a 32-31 lead.

Early in the second half, Fresno State pulled out a 14-0 run that put the Bulldogs ahead, 44-37 with just under 15 minutes to play in the ball game. But that is as far as the Cougars would let them get. Aden began to find open spots in the Bulldog zone and made Fresno State pay time and again in the second half - scoring 18 of his points in that period - while Wazzu responded with their own 14-0 run and never looked back en route to the victory.
Joining Aden in double figures was junior Klay Thompson with 22 points [16 coming in the first half] and sophomore Brock Motum with 11 points. Junior Marcus Capers led the team with eight rebounds.
Junior forward DeAngelo Casto did not play due to a foot sprain. His recovery is listed as day-to-day.
NOTES:
- Sophomore point guard Reggie Moore sat out his fourth game with a wrist injury.
- Moore originally signed with Fresno State out of high school and the Cougars also have Fresno State transfer Mychal Ladd on their roster. Ladd will be eligible to play next year.
