Wazzu Grounds Air Force

The Washington State University men's basketball team went on the road for a home game as Wazzu traveled a few miles north to Spokane to take on the Air Force Falcons. The Cougars did not overwhelm Air Force but did just enough to defeat the Falcons, 75-68 at the Spokane Arena. With the win, the Cougars improve to 8-2 overall on the year.
Air Force got off the ground quickly and took a 5-1 lead. The Falcons held the lead for the first four minutes of the game until the Cougars tied it at five and, after a brief tie at seven, Wazzu took the lead and Air Force never regained it. The Cougars extended the lead to as much as nine points on several occasions in the first half before finally settling on a 29-22 lead going into the locker room at halftime.

Wazzu again expanded their lead in the second half, building their advantage to 14 points at 40-26. But Air Force came storming back, outscoring the Cougars, 29-17, toi close within two points at 57-55 with 6:34 left in the game. But that was as close as the Falcons could get as Wazzu pulled away for the victory.
Three players finished in double digits in scoring, led by sophomore sensation Klay Thompson with 19 points and followed by true freshman guard Reggie Moore with 16 points and sophomore guard Marcus Capers with 12 points. Senior Nikola Koprivica led the team with 11 rebounds.
Wazzu will continue their 2009-10 season on December 19 in Kennewick when they will face Portland State at 4:30 PM Pacific Time.
