Wazzu Rebounds Against Beavers

The Washington State University men's hoop team discarded the bad taste of the loss to the Oregon Ducks and rebounded with a gritty win over the Oregon State Beavers, 61-55 in Corvallis. With the victory, Wazzu keeps their NCAA tournament chances alive and improves to 6-5 in conference play and 16-7 overall.
Unlike their start against Oregon, Wazzu jumped out to a 6-0 lead against Oregon State and held the Beavers scoreless for the game's first four minutes as the Cougars took a 9-2 lead into the first media timeout. The Beavers responded with a 10-2 run of their own to take an 11-10 lead when Wazzu unloaded a massive 18-1 run to take a 28-12 lead - their largest of the game - with 6:09 remaining in the half. But the Cougars could not hold the bulk of the lead and allowed the Beavers to crawl back into by halftime as Oregon State cut the Cougar margin down to a slim 32-27 at the break.

Wazzu pulled away in the second half for a pair of 10-point leads with the final 10-point lead coming with 3:03 remaining and Wazzu leading 56-46. But Oregon State had one last run in them and the Beavers launched a 9-1 offensive that brought them to within two at 57-55 with 23 seconds left in the game. But junior guard Faisal Aden finished off the Beavers with four consecutive free throws for the final margin of victory.
Sophomore point guard Reggie Moore led a trio of Cougars in double digits in scoring with 14 points, followed by junior forward DeAngelo Casto with 11 points and Aden with 10 points.
Casto had a double-double, bringing down 10 rebounds to lead the Cougars.
NOTES:
- Junior guards Klay Thompson and Marcus Capers both fouled out in the game.
- Thompson's point total was a season-low.
