Wazzu Sweeps Oregon State For A Perfect 12-0

The Washington State University volleyball team keeps on rolling and now their roll has entered Pac-10 play. The Cougars kept their winning streak intact and their loss column unblemished as Wazzu swept Oregon State in three sets in Corvallis. The victory gives Wazzu their 12th consecutive win of the year without a defeat - their best start since 1995 when they won their first 13 matches and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. After winning three of their last four matches of the 2008 season, the Cougars have now won 15 of their last 16 matches carrying over from last year. With the win, Wazzu is now 1-0 in conference play.
The first set was a battle early on, but the Cougs pulled away midway through the set and opened up a six-point lead that they would hold on to for the final margin of 25-19.

In the second set, Wazzu jumped out to 7-1 lead and never looked back. In a spirited comeback, the Beavers fought back to within one at 23-22, but the Cougars finally put it away and won 25-23.
In the third and final set, Wazzu left no doubt, opening up a 6-1 lead and pulling away for a convincing 25-16 victory.
Senior Jackie Albright overwhelmed the Beavers with a match-high 18 kills. Senior Kelly Hyder and freshman Oceana Bush were both in double figures in digs with 18 and 17, respectively. Senior setter Renee Bordelon had 38 assists.
Wazzu continues Pac-10 play against Oregon at 1pm on Sunday, September 27 in Eugene.
