Wildcats Pull Away Late From Cougs

The Washington State University women's basketball team finally reversed their recent trend of slow starts against Kansas State but were unable to sustain the effort in the second half and succumbed 74-58 to the undefeated [11-0] Wildcats at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman. The loss drops the Cougars to 7-4 overall on the season as they prepare to enter Pac-10 conference play.
Four players were in double figures for Wazzu, led by freshman Jazmine Perkins with 18 points, followed by senior center Heather Molzen who had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds and then freshmen April Cook and Rosie Tarnowski with 10 points apiece.

Due to poor first half play, the Cougars had been forced into comeback mode in their last four games, but that was not the case against Kansas State. The Cougars were down by nine in the first half, but scored the final six points of the half and were only down 33-30 to the talented and veteran Wildcats despite shooting just 37% from the field to Kansas State's 54%.
Wazzu fought through the first five minutes of play and held a slim two-point margin with 14:58 left to play in the game. But the Cougars' shooting woes emerged once again – they hit only 25% of their shots in the second half – and they had no answer for Wildcat junior forward Ashley Sweat, who torched the Cougars for 30 points as Kansas State pulled away late in second half to win comfortably.
Senior guard Katie Appleton had four assists but was held scoreless while Cook had two steals for Wazzu.
Wazzu's next game is against rival Washington at 2pm on Saturday, January 3 in Seattle.
