Woolridge impresses in third scrimmage

Freshman DeMaundray Woolridge scored on runs of 25 and two yards and Jason Hill caught two touchdown passes to highlight Washington State University's third fall scrimmage held Friday afternoon in Martin Stadium.
Quarterbacks Alex Brink and Josh Swogger both hit Hill with touchdown passes. Brink's was from 13 yards out and Swogger connected with Hill for 52 yards. Michael Bumpus showed his passing ability with a long strike to Jed Collins covering 58 yards.

Alex Teems, Don Turner and Eric Frampton each had interceptions to lead the defense, while Husain Abdullah, Scott Davis, Aaron Johnson and Bryan Olson recorded sacks.
"I like DeMaundray Woolridge, Doba professed after the scrimmage. "He is a load going up there. He plants that foot and turns up field and he's a tough kid to tackle. He will do well."
Woolridge received a lot of work, 21 carries for 70 yards, as did Brandon Asuega-Stark, who carried the ball 10 times for 29 yards.
Starter Jerome Harrison carried just once and backup Kevin McCall is expected to be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks with a lower leg or high ankle injury suffered Thursday. Collins is also nursing a sore shoulder and saw limited duty, leaving the bulk of the work to Woolridge and Asuega-Stark.
"The kickers are doing well," Doba pointed out when asked about the battle between Loren Langley and Graham Siderius. "I don't think Graham Siderius has missed a kick in our scrimmages. We'll concentrate on their consistency the next two weeks, but Graham will definitely kick off because he is an extra cover guy."
Asked about the quarterback battle, Doba said he would wait until he had reviewed video before commenting.
"About the time I think one of them is going to do it, the other does well," Doba said of Swogger and Brink. "It has been pretty even and I think we can win with either one."
Doba was also asked what improvements he wanted to see this season.
"Win more games than last year so we can get to a bowl game," he responded, adding, "Win the close ones. We had three games last year we had a chance to win and we just didn't finish. We need to finish better."
The Cougars will practice Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoon, then take Monday off, which is the first day of classes on the WSU campus.
